Drivers side door mirror adjusts fine but passenger side is dead. When the passengers side is selected and I try to adjust clicking is audible from the drivers side mirror. Any ideas please?

The mechanism could have popped out from the motor in the mirror, remove the glass and check, there should be a hole in the underside of the mirror housing that allows you to top the glass out.

Thanks Satan popped the mirror out but it's fitted fine. Slaved passenger mirror into drivers mirror plug and it works fine. Stripped switch down and cleaned it, nothing obvious found but problem remains. Power reaching passenger side and clicking noticed on both sides when passenger mirror selected and try to adjust. Any more ideas?

Could be the gearing gone on the motor.

So if both mirrors work if you fettle the connections to the switch then it seems the switch is kaput.

I think your problem may be corrosion in the multiplug that goes into the passenger door from the main body of the car and maybe is insufficient to carry the load to adjust the motor. Mine hasn't been working for a while either but I find that it is one of the least important things that doesn't work as you can adjust the glass manually and leave it.

Thanks both. I've stripped the switch down, pretty simple device and all the connections were fine and clean. Multiplug sounds likely now. And as you say it's not that important certainly not warranting stripping down the multiplug this side of summer. Thought it might be an easy fix... ha who was I kidding! Thanks again.

It's usually very simple, the control lines for the passenger door mirror goes through the drivers door multi plug pins 5,6 7 and the passenger door multi plug pins 1, 2 and 3

Open up the plugs and clean the pins and sockets with switch cleaner and all should be well.

There's very good details in the wiki C404/C405 plug section

Ok, paultv, thanks I'll give it a go. I know that it really doesn't matter that much and if that's the only problem I've got I'm lucky but it's one of those annoying things. And I've had plenty of real problems but the car's still worth it!

problem is, if this is the first sign of corrosion in the door plugs, it will only get worse as other things fail, so best sorted out if you can.

Worst case is replacing pins and sockets in the plugs, not to tricky a job, so none of it is terminal!

Good luck,

Paul :-)

If you have somebody operate the passenger mirror switch while you push or prod the rubber housing of the multiplug it may work temporarily.
