Temp sensor damage?

I just filed the thread down on a brown temp sensor so I can rethread it to M10 size and fit it to my M52 head... I accidentally filed the surface of the probe itself in the process, will this render the sensor useless? (much like my metalwork skills)

Considering a new sensor is so cheap, I'd probably replace it. It's not a risk worth taking with the cooling systems of these engines.
