The centre box of the exhaust system on my car is blowing, and I am inclined to replace the lot rather than just that box and have to replace the rear one shortly afterwards.

My car is a March 1987 325i Sport, and therefore pre-facelift. Carparts4less (and of course euro carparts) have only one type of centre box, and the fitment details show "from 10/1987" so for facelift vehicles. On the other hand, the only rear silencer is shown as "to 12/87" Was there really a change with the facelift, or are they interchangeable or easily adaptable?

Is there anywhere else I should be looking, or any alternative system? A stainless system looks very pricey from what I could see.

At the engine-end of the system, where it meets with the manifold, there are a choice of two different sizes of joint, maybe that's the difference?

you get a pre-facelift manifold with a smaller connection to the down pipes than a facelift manifold...

The facelift manifold fits all 325i engines so worst case scenario is you buy a facelift manifold...

you also get a 2 and a 3 piece exhaust system, if you have a 3 piece then I recommend changing to a 2 piece if planning a full exhaust swap

I have now found what is described as a performance exhaust system from Sportex LINK Does anyone have any experience of this?

Has no one tried this Sportex exhaust? I do not want to fit it and then discover it is badly made or boy-racer loud!
