Good morning. I have an intermittent problem with my boot lid not staying up. It has an Mtech 2 spoiler and the inner grey panel fitted. Is there a re-adjustment anywhere ? I did think the large tensioned bar across the inner boot are has something to do with it but I can't see another notch or position to move it too to accommodate the additional weight

If you fitted the inner panel you may need a new damper as I replaced mine as the additional weight of the panel pulled the lid down plus the damper was 28 years old, when the car was sold and specced with a spoiler I "think" a different damper was fitted 300nm.
I got mine from SGS.
Edit,
just found my old invoice from 2016 this is the part I ordered.

Thank you both, I have to say I've never seen the gas strut fitted on a saloon boot lid convertibles yes .
I've checked Real OEM and they come up with part No's 41622238835/ 36 as the tension springs and which are different from boot lids with lip spoilers so that maybe that's the problem . Either the wrong springs are fitted or have become weakened over the years ?

If you type that number in to Realoem check out number 23 and 28 as it looks like a damper.
Bugger heres the link,

I am not too sure on a saloon, did they have dampers or a loaded spring?

There's no damper on a saloon boot lid - only torsion springs, which are adjustable at the fixed end.
There are uprated torsion bars specified as part of the Mtec II spoiler kit. (See fitting guide in wiki).

Maybe Viagra would help to keep it "up"

Please excuse my ignorance but I'm assuming at the fixed end there is another slot to use which puts more force onto the bar ?Brianmoooore wrote:There's no damper on a saloon boot lid - only torsion springs, which are adjustable at the fixed end.

Fixed end of each torsion bar has two positions in which it can be fitted, and I know from experience that adjusting these to twist the bars more is enough to counteract the extra weight when fitting the 'ordinary' boot spoiler.
I've never fitted a Tech II spoiler, so have no practical experience to share, but the fitting guide in the dealer instructions I uploaded to the wiki a few years ago, includes the fitting of stronger torsion bars.

Cheers Brian , I suspect that it's already at it's optimum position as I believe it previously has a lip spoiler fitted ,although I will have a play around with it. The local main dealers still do them for around £8 for 1 .Brianmoooore wrote:Fixed end of each torsion bar has two positions in which it can be fitted, and I know from experience that adjusting these to twist the bars more is enough to counteract the extra weight when fitting the 'ordinary' boot spoiler.
