Good evening can anyone please advise on how to refit a glove box, the whole lot including the securing bracket ,it was already out when I had the car , I cannot for the life of me work out where the steel bracket holding the hinge fits .it looks like two bolts secure it to the body but where ?

Thanks in anticipation

There should be two 6mm studs projecting from the bulkhead that the steel bracket fits on to.
If these are missing, it's a bit worrying, since they (the RH one especially) can be seriously weakened by corrosion to the bulkhead, to the point of falling off.
The bulkhead in this area is double skinned, and if the sealant at the bottom of the scuttle box fails, water in the box finds its way down between the two skins, rotting through the inner one first.

Cheers Brian
The car has been interior free and the only work on the bulkhead as far as I can see is a small patch welded in on the vertical face just to the right of the arch .I've moved the fuse box and taken away the deadening panel to check for corrosion and then waxoiled it.so I'm happy that's ok but really at a loss searching for these studs . I know they were there 11 years ago when I sold the car but having it back without it now being fitted ? . Can you confirm where these two studs would be , on the top of the bulk head or the vertical face? if on the vertical then I may have found the right hand one

Attach the metal hinge to the glovebox with the flange that mounts to the bulkhead pointing downwards, then offer the glovebox up to where it should be. This should show you where the studs should be.
With the carpet in place, they are just covered by the front edge.

Don't forget the straps either side.

Brian can you confirm that one or two ? of the studs are fitted onto a raised bracket , I've found the one bracket /stud , where the other one should be is where the repair has been effected. was that also a bracket or a just a threaded stud fixed to the bulkhead?

I thought the piano hinge had 3 screws, or am I wrong?

You're right the hinge does have 3 screws which screw into flat plates which sit on the hinge and secures the glove box to the hinge . I'm referring to the two studs which secure the metal bracket to the bulkhead , one of which is missing, I don't know if the stud is fitted via a bracket or is fitted directly to the bulkhead.

Just looked at a couple of E30s. The RH stud is on a rectangular bracket, raised a few mm away from the bulkhead, and the LH stud is welded directly to the bulkhead, just below the rubber grommet for the wiring.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look for me ,that is very much appreciated . In that case I can jury rig a new fitting without worrying too much about the alignment as there is adjustment on the hinge. Also thank you Satan, again for taking the time to respond .
