When I was a teenager I had a Renault 14, which is French, and France is next to Germany. Audis are German. Sorry, not much help.

I shall repeat the post I put up this morning, was the first one after your orignal....

We had an A3 for 5 years and our son used it for his first car for a further year, it now rests behind my garage waiting for our other son to pass his test, and while dull to drive was totally reliable and in all that time it only ever needed was an altenator, £20 on Ebay. Faultless as good as.

Here it was on arrival, E30 style 8)

One of my clients (in Germany) has an extremley rare S8 Avant, this also has the Gallardo engine, 550bph or there abouts, he brought it over once, very descreet car, only give away being 4 exhausts and two little V10 badges on the lower front wings, pure beast.

Hi Mick,

I had one and owned it for 13 years. It was actually an A6 Quattro Sports 2.5Tdi, Avant. Auto Tiptronic gearbox. Best car I have owned!

I sold mine with 189k on the clocks. Only problems I experienced were rust to the front wheel arches and pixilation to the some of the computer info on the dash display.

Other than that, it was fine. Leather interior was like new too.

I would avoid unless its cheap. 2.5 TDI known engine dramas and also gearboxes. Plus replacing all front control arms on these is PITA job and very expensive.

Mrs and I looked at a Mk2 CRV a short while ago, the car was far more beaten up than the pictures suggested, but never the less I drove it anyway. Upon my comment of the excessivley stiff clutch, I said my MK1 was much lighter, his reply, Honda customers complained the Mk1 clutch was too light so for the Mk2 they stiffened it
