Hurrah! I've purposely steered clear of the zone for a few years, purely in the hope that when I returned that this would be finished. Pop in this morning and although it took me a while to find, there she is, all done and on the road!

Simply stunning Si. Cap well and truly doffed sir!

I bought this E30 Alpina vent guage about 8-9 years ago but it never worked. Fastforward to now and theres a guy on facebook in Germany on one of the alpina pages who posted some pictures of him repairing an E34 Bi turbo one for Alpina themselves!

So i've sent mine over to germany and luckily hes been able to fix it. It had a broken power supply on the PCB and some capacitors had failed so have been replaced. Apparently over voltage can kill the mother boards and its basically game over if this happens

Will be the finishing touch on the C2 i think. Can't wait to get it back and fitted!

Might have to give him a go Couple of people looked at mine years ago couldn’t make it work. It was replaced with the more modern version. If I can find it guess it might be worth another look. Trouble is years ago newer stuff was better and older stuff tended to get binned :banghead:

Its always better to try and fix original stuff rather than replace i think. Its often more work but worth it i think.

Everything i buy needs fixing so this vent guage repair shouldn't come as any surprise to me! I need to repair all the loom and wire it in properly now. Then see if the sensors work!

I'm going to try and get to a few this year. I've not been to any the past few years with holidays clashing and the kids family life

One thing i've learnt they are never finished!

I've not been very good with updating this really but this winter i had all 5 wheels refurbished at lepsons via Barry and then new tyres

best pic i have but it needs a clean after sitting in garage since new year

Tyres are yoko AD08's as selection of tyres in 225/45/16 is very limited and these seem to be overkill for a road car but they grip!!

So all new badges tyre valves etc. Quite an expense but the value of a mint staggered set with spare 7j are bonkers now

I've also had to change the diff bush, plus one oil seal. Really i should of done this last year but hardly the toughest of jobs to sort.

So she drives even better now as diff bush didn't look it but was bad and i was getting the prop banging and a bit of drive line shudder sometimes i guess from all the torque and too much flex in the bush!!

Theres more to do, one of the front wheel bearings is noisey, its brand new! but i guess sitting for 10 years it didn't like

i know what you mean on both counts, you plan to go to a show, even if only a local one & sure as egg is eggs something comes up that puts paid to it.

as for never finished, there's always something needs doing, either routine maintenance
or you spot a new shiny upgrade/toy winkeye

True they do a car show in camberley and i've been past few years and not seen one bmw so i'd like to change that this year!

Maybe ~Gaydon or santa pod and give it some shit up the strip see what sort of time she'll do.

the restoration "continues" it never ends does it?

Image

After new tyres i still had some noises which aren't needed. This front wheel bearing is kaput so confirms the theory they do dryout turn to poo if you fit new ones and leave them on the car for 9 years while you get it going!

Image

Image

Didn't take long to swap at all, as i've been here before..............

Image

looking badass for now

then onto a newer more sinister problem

Image

I've taken to parking this way round in my garage and then noticed a new problem........

Image

A fucking great oil leak!

Image

moving car out of garage and jacking her up shows me this, from bellhousing area. Great

Image

So now in this lovely sunshine we are in gearbox off and find the leak mode, probably something i have done wrong as i'm the only person who has been there!

Also in other news i'm going to take it to the ring on a trackday in May! Why not give me a chance to finally properly bond with it on a long road trip and use it properly after all these years and hardwork, will help me like it!
