What is this rubber guard type stuff?

Hello guys I'm just doing some welding on the front end of my bmw e30 and I cant figure out what this rubberguard type stuff is and where I get it, it looks like its sprayed on very thickly but I might be wrong, any help would be appreciated

Picture doesn't appear to be working, its the very thick splattered rubber that is around the turrets, around the inner wings and some other places

The thick stuff is usually seam sealer.

The stuff over any joins is polyurethane seam sealer, as said above, but the stuff over larger areas in polyurethane underseal. The latter is a two pack formulation, and the former is a solvent evaporation set compound, but they are essentially the same thing.
