Hi, I need some advice about a cluster of a 1990 e30 316i BMW from Portugal. The cluster is a VDO model in KMs that goes to 240km / h.
I tryed to restore my one with the correct coughs and Si batteries without success. I think my board is fried and the KMs motor is not working and the rev counter and consumption reader is not working either. Another issue is if I reach connectors and Jiggle with my fingers, the blue one jumps the coolant reader and some other warning lights, the white connector makes the back lighting goes on and off. Might have a socket issue one my cluster. Also the yellow connector is empty and I do not have any on my car. The service lights are working now after i change the battteries but that could be because i cleaned all the connectors.
I have no long screws dammage on the board also, but back of the board looked suspicious.
Things working fine are the fuel tank, velocimeter, left indicator, fog indicator, high beams.
Thinks working intermittently, right indicator, battery, ebrake and coolant gauge.
Things not working at all, rev and fuel consumption, engine light, trip and km readers.

Welcome to the Zone! Maybe the Zone Wiki may give you some insight:

Yellow socket is for the on board computer option that fits in place of the analogue clock. If you don't have an OBC, the yellow socket will be empty.
The blue and white connectors are normally very reliable, but, if in the past, someone has tried to force them apart without realising how the locking mechanism works, it's not unknown for some of the soldered joints of the socket pins to the main circuit board to crack. Carefully check the soldering on the printed circuit board where the sockets are fitted, and the condition of the copper tracks.

Brianmooooore, thanks for your quick reply. Will do that when i have the chance.
But the most annoying thing is the km's counter and the rev counter, i changed the gears and moved them by hand and it was working. On the car it doesn't work, must be the motor or a bad connection.
The rev counter, i changed the batteries but its not working also. I've heard that they need time to charge up, but yesterday i did 50km's and still nothing.
The fuses 10, 12 and 21 looked good apart that i notice that on the fuse 10 it was a 10 amps instead of 7.5.

Update, checked all the fuses and clean the c101 plug. Nothing changed.
Another question, does the odometer needs the SI board to work properly?

Speedometer and odometer are 'stand alone', and not affected by the SI board and any faults it may have, although a certain unusual SI fault can damage a single component on the speedo. circuit board (which won't affect its operation).
If the speedo. is working and the odometer isn't, check the soldering to the odometer stepper motor and that of the pins that connect the speedo. board to the main board.
Can also be failed plastic gear wheels in warm countries.

Thanks a lot for that tip. I changed the plastic gear wheels and turn them by hand to ensure that they were working and they were. On the car is not.
I'm gonna check the soldering to the odometer like u said the next time i have the chance to take the cluster out.
