Hi I got a stroked m20 engine which I had rolling road tuned. Since I crashed the car had the engine fitted to another e30 and added Some more upgradesI have now added a btb 6 branch manifold, a big throttle body, a middle non cat box left o2 sensor disconnect. Haven't driven the car yet but notice the manifold getting very hot glowing on idle. Think the car is running learn . Timing is ok? Could this be due to the chip ecu or because Iv left the o2 sensor disconnect? Will get another tune done but am reluctant to drive the car in this state. Any info would be greata™a

I had a Fiat twin-cam that did this initially. I discovered there was quite a constriction in the collector part of the exhaust manifold, and also the ignition timing was too advanced (it was set to TDC, while it should have been on approx. 10 degrees BTDC).
So yes, check your ignition timing (including the cambelt) and for any obstructions in the exhaust system.

Yes checked the cam belt set at tdc will disconnect the exchaust from manifold c if any change? Should I fit the 02 sensor or will leaving it disconnect will it cause a issue?

It should be fine to run it without an O2 sensor - they were only fitted to later 1992-on ones fitted with catalytic converters. Perhaps remove your cat if it still has one fitted, which may be causing restriction.

Any advice on a good non cat middle box do bmw still sell them . Currently got a btb manifold and a suppersprint back box. Will I have to go custom or can I get something of the shelf. Any recommendations would be great.

A standard 325i middle section should fit, and will probably be available from a BMW dealer, or a good exhaust centre. Alternatively, try asking Cotswolds on here...
