again, the car is not getting the usage it deserves and I am thinking about a more fun car for myself for weekends something like a Caterham that I can just use for myself and get more usage out of, so should I sell the 88 Chromie will I miss it or just get rid and hoon around in a Cat 7?
Thought and advice please from others who have been in this situation?

I had a bike, my pride and joy, an original matching numbers Yamaha FS1E all be it needing restoration. I had for 27 years and swore I would never sell it, one day I would restore it.
However, life is, or atleast can be, short and I fancied getting a Range Rover for off roading. Something myself my boys and my wife can enjoy now. So I decided to sell it and live for now. Glad I did, my P38 when it isn't broken is brilliant and by its very being creates memories for my boys. My FS1E in the shed did not do this.
Have taught my 10 year old to drive in it, now he has the honour & memory of learning to drive in a V8 monster! Priceless.
My advice, sell it and get something you will actually use.

I have already sold it Chap, that's what funded the RR purchase. Got just over £1800 for it, and given it's condition ( unused since I was 16 and looking like a complete wreck) that was good money. The RR cost £1300 and I spent £350 on a set of 16" Disco steels with huge over size mud tyres. Couple of hunderd on insurance.
Good investment, P38's are climbing in value

I got rid of my e30 of seven years over 6 years ago wished I had kept her after a few months.Satan wrote: Thought and advice please from others who have been in this situation?
Then just over four years ago I bought the Baur as a toy.
I have had some great fun and intend a lot more this summer in her.
What I failed to realise was the absolute lack of E-30`s on the road these days, the people who stop and talk to me, the offers I have had, and just to drive a classic is superb.
If you have the space and can treat it as a second "home" , then think very carefully as these are so rare to see these days no matter what it is.
Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

If you don't need the money to fund the caterham, then leave the E30 in the garage and buy the caterham. Having said that, why would you get more use out of the Caterham if this is a second car and the E30 is/was also a second car?
The reality of owning a caterham will soon prove that it's fun for a very short time and impractical.
Furthermore, E30 is appreciating in value, more so if it's not being used, caterham will depreciate.

Its appreciating in price Gert but not at a rate that will make much difference to my life, the BM is a car to take out once in a while in the summer and to just drive it aimlessly and it'll never be abused, yes its nice and fun but the other half doesn't get the same thrill that I do out of it, if its not a Caterham then maybe another Lotus Elise as I only have the one garage its a one in one out jobbie and then it would be a car just for me to thrash as the other half will just moan about how uncomfortable it is so I would be out and about on my own.Gert_8 wrote:If you don't need the money to fund the caterham, then leave the E30 in the garage and buy the caterham. The other half may not enjoy it in the same way you do, but it sounds as though she might ride in it unlike the Caterham, so use it to take her somewhere she would like to go, away for a weekend perhaps. Go on a scenic tour, many clubs run them open to non-members in nice parts of the country.
One of the troubles with a Lotus is that the road holding is so good you can never even get near its limits on the road, so you will need to do track days to do it justice. Apart from being so hopelessly impractical as a road car that you will otherwise never use it at all.

She doesn't like having the roof down as she has issues with wind on her neck (partly the jobs fault that she has been doing for the last 25 years) so that takes the fun out of that.ChrisHC wrote:The other half may not enjoy it in the same way you do, but it sounds as though she might ride in it unlike the Caterham, so use it to take her somewhere she would like to go, away for a weekend perhaps. I had a Lotus 111R for 3 years as well and yes its impractical especially in London, speed bumps and 20 mph zones everywhere but jeeeez it was fun on the twisties in Cornwall.
Maybe I should get a decent 2 door tin top.

Perhaps she doesn't like the roof down because it means being seen out with you...! a˜‚a˜‚a˜‚

I get some right stick when I don't use the Baur in the summer.
She loves the fact that people are looking and smiling and she thinks maybe it`s at her ? (and it should be ) then it clicked......

Went to a William Metcalf open day today in Liss for Vintage Bentley fans and spoke to a few owners of Morgans and Caterhams and older Lotuses as I like the Elan +2 and the Breadvan Europas but I think I may sell the E30 to fund an Exige SC 260 BHP, I know I am mad but I think its time to move the E30 onto someone else to carry on the restoration and ownership while I get the speed and thrills bug whilst still staying dry and warm out of my system before I die.
Not to everyones taste, this is sold so I need to hunt for one.
