Hi All fellow e30 guys and dolls.
I realy need some pointers.
still can,t get ride of a shaky steering wheel at 70 80 mph
its ok at 40 50 bearable at 60ish but not right.
front wheel have been balance , replaced the lolipops one was shoot. all suspension feels solid with no noticeable play.
The car which is brilliant, seems a bit uneasy on white lines and a bit jittery at times,
it corners o.k and not vibrating under heavy braking.
I,m hoping it not but what are the symptoms of a worn/knackered
steering rack . any constructive commments please.

How old are the tyres? I had an E36 that tramlined very badly, the cause turned out to be that the tyres were deteriorating from the inside, although there was still plenty of tread. your comment about the white lines made me think of that.

You don't say if you've had the tracking checked as well?

no i have not, surely that would cause uneven tyre wear. which i don't appear to have, but thanks for the thought.

Warped disc with a dragging caliper will cause this. I speak from experience.
Changed the discs, and the caliper was dragging due to a disintegrating flexi hose , replaced those too and problem solved.

These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Swap the rear to the front tyres and see if it is the same.

thats interesting. but i have had warp disc on a car before ,this would come thru when i braked. well it did before. iirc when i brake, the vibration could be felt thru the pedal.clipper wrote:Warped disc with a dragging caliper will cause this. I speak from experience.
