He he he... that's funny.

I had a spanner spin off and clock me in the face. That was pretty painful.

The closest i've come to that was when i was removing the rear wiper arm from a mk 2 golf. After pulling like fcuk it eventually came free.....straight into my eye! It wasn't easy trying to explain to the doctor in Dutch that i poked myself in the eye with a windscreen wiper

I know you already knew, but if you'd searched on here for how the knob came off, you'd have found plenty of warnings not to smack yourself in the face!

Slipped & put a pair of pliers through my lower lip once! & petrol in the eye stings a bit too...

When I changed my knob for a nice woodgrain one, I couldnt figure it out, and someone here told me to straddle the center console and pull over my shoulder to not knock myself out. That worked well getting the knob off, but then I fell backwards and cracked the rear ashtray and coin holder when my arse landed on it.

By the way, if anyone has a coin holder insert for the center console, and could ship to australia reasonably cheaply, PM me ;)

Ian mate, I think we've all done something similar in the past, my most recent was splitting the bridge of my nose open with a 24mm spanner, I was lying on my back under the car @ the time, both eyes filled with blood and scrabbling to get , not fun, it "needed" stitches, but in the best DIY ever, I superglued it back together, slapped a plaster on , nad geot stuck back,

Kin double nose in the morning ! not good, its huge as normal 8O :P :P :P

get well soon

Mine just comes off with one hand, I'm always playing with my knob when I'm bored in the car.

Only car-related injury I've had is when a front foglight kept going off so I bashed it back in with my wrist as I'd done many times before, though obviously the glass broke

Had a 1cm deep gash in what could be described as a "busy" place in terms of bloodflow.

The look on the face of the woman in the kiosk (this was at Tesco petrol station) when I went in and placed my rather colourful hand on the counter asking if they had a first aid kit was priceless :)

 I did that with my ratchet at work, tightening a caliper carrier bolt at eye level.

1 final tweak i thought and that will do........ it did alright, socket slipped off and the body of the ratchet smacked me square-on in the temple and cut my head open  it was all i could do to stay upright

Smacked myself above my eyebrow with a Snap-On half inch drive ratchet about 400mm long. Was cracking suspension bolts and slipped off a rather tight one :-x Also while changing fuel filter on a corsa on a 2 post lift, overlooked it had an accumulator so when i pulled the fuel hose off i got a right eye full, literally had to put my eye under the cold tap!
I once rubbed my eye after changing a 'furry' battery, god that hurt!!
That was all when i was an apprentice mechanic, so no more daft tricks like that nowadays

Worse thing happened to me car wise was when i was about 18 i had a B reg Orion 1.3GL and was fitting a set of XR3i coil springs.
Did one side of the front no problem. When doing the other side,i stripped the strut from the car,put on the spring clamps and proceeded to remove the spring.
Remove all the top mount etc and got hold of the spring around one of the coils,as i did this one of the clamps slid round trapping all 4 fingers on my left hand between them
To make matters worse,no matter how carefull my dad was to loosen them they effectedly just tightened more hence having to improvise and use some old seatbelts to tie up the spring and cut the clamps of with the grinder  very twitchy moment ill say!

Luckilly no broken bones but plenty of bruising and genuine pain.

Certainly learnt a valuable lesson that day

dropped a lambda probe spanner when removing the o2 probe from the e36 I had. It hit me in the tooth.

When knocking a water pump off it's spindle, my right hand 'pad'- the fleshy bit at the bottom of the thumb just split and exploded. It was wrapped around the shaft of the hammer- claret everywhere!

Mind you my other pastime (football) has yielded:
5 broken noses, one broken hand, 4 broken 5th metatarsels, 2 broken fibulas, 2 broken tibias, 1 broken femur, 1 broken cheekbone, 1 torn knee ligament, 2 stitches in eyebrow, 16 stitches in ankle, 4 stitches in peak, 2 broken teeth.

Cars are safe, although I once dropped a mini on me ma.....

Not e30 related but worth a read.

Decorating the lounge when I first got married at 10.00pm Sat. night like you do when you're in love and want to impress her.
Cutting waste off in the corner with a stanley knife when she walks in with a cup of tea for me (bless). Take the tea, put it down and go back to cutting paper.
Didn't know I'd turned the knife round and put a 1" gash in my thumb.
3 hours later, no plasters left, no bandages left and running out of hankies
decide it needs stiching - so off to casualty.

Indian lady doctor gives me local pain killer jab (they don't seem to work on me but the fooking needle hurts). Cos I can still feel her touching the end of my thumb she gives me FOUR jabs over an hour and still doesn't work. Tell the silly b*tch to stitch it or I'll tw@t her and go home and do it myself.

Get home at 5.30am and still got to finish the decorating cos her parents are coming for dinner.

Had about 10 lots of stitches since then, NONE with anaesthetic!!!!!!!!!!

Changing my exhaust my leg seized up in the cold and got bad cramp. I leapt up and smacked my head on the underside of my car, getting lots of 'mess' in my eyes. :x

Another time stupidly pushing my car up my drive (steep), i pushed with the boot open. It fell down and hit my hands so i fell flat on the floor and almost got run over by the car roling back!

Incidently my gearknob came off realy easily! winkeye

Another good 1 for me was the first time i removed a steering wheel.... i was young, foolish and owned a nova 8O so i supose it served me right that it was stuck and when it finally came off (partly me using all my weight and writhing at it, partly the spring behind it) it smacked me staright in the nose

in my defence it was a 1.4L that i made into a lightweight GT/E...
