I'm hoping to swap my m20b20 cabby for a m52b25 early next year.
Just wondering, how does this affect insurance.
Does anyone has any experience?
Many thanks in advance.

the reason i'm asking, because the insurance is very reasonably priced for a classic car....

That's very reasonable.
Someone said to me, that after swap insurance went up to £700!!
this means that the m52 swap now seams even more interesting.....
thank you very much for the input.
Cheers.

Do you ever regret getting rid of the m20 engine?

Hmmmm. Not really. It's different, love the way the m52 pulls. It does feel like a bit of a mongrel car though using the e36 engine but it's a moredoor so I don't feel too bad. If it was a 325 tech one or two I think I would have gone for a m20b27 conversion. My friends just done one in his E21 and it feels like a torquey beast.

Good point.
My m20b20 is leaking oil from the sump and from underneath cylinder head, thermostat housing is broken and the car never idles correct even though i have checked for air leaks and cleaned/changed the ICV a number of times.
in the long run I think is more financially feasible to change it to m52...
hopefully early next year..
Thanks for the input..

It comes down to personal choice- the B20 is not an unpleasant engine to work on especially if removed and on a stand- this engine is well suited to a cabby.
Given the way the prices for E30's are creeping up I suspect an unmolested original car with original engine would likely be worth more in years to come.

at 149K it only just starting to be properly run in- assuming it been correctly serviced.bmw335icoupe wrote:another good point,

Cabbies will increase in value, i purchased mine for sub £1K in 2008 - its now insured with an agreed valuation of £6K. Mine has 127K on the clock.

Looks like original e30 is better than money in the bank
I need to think about it long and hard so I won't have any regrets.....
