Hi

Has anyone ever installed retro fit ISOFIX points to their E30? If you did which Kit did you use? Called 3 BMW dealerships and I have been told BMW don't have a retro fit kit, seems weird as most other manufacturers do.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Be interested to know if you find out - but it sounds unlikely, or at least a major job - don't know that much about it, but isn't it done as part of the chassis on modern cars?

Can't you just use the seat belts that you have?

This cannot be so difficult as the whole basis of iso-fix are two u shaped sections attatched to the bulkhead behind the seats.
Being an engineer I would love to look into this as I have grand kids and both me and one of my lads have e46 330`s which have the same system, but , I have broke my wrist but one for the future indeed !!

Oldest daughter's about a month away from dropping her first, so this is of interest to me as well.
As martoauto says, it shouldn't be difficult to modify a proprietary retrofit bracket to fit a BMW - an E39 touring in my case.
The "Customers who viewed this item also viewed" bit at the bottom of the above amazon link shows a couple of Ford items, which are much more attractively priced for something that may end up as scrap than the VW versions.

Brian, what year E39 is it? I'm sure they came with isofix as standard from about 2001.

My 2003 has it, although it is buried!

Last of the 528s- ended in 2000, IIRC.
If later ones were fitted with it, then it may be worth searching out a breaker. I was under the impression that isofix was introduced with the E60.

Spotted Brian !!!
The Focus one at £17 is what I will buy and make it work. Christ this is such a simple system and at that price it`s worth buying even just to bodge/adjust sorry to see what is needed to my specific car.
Like I said before, the old fart has bust his wrist and will be out for at least another four weeks but it does not stop me thinking and nagging a son or two to help me for an hour or so.

Big congrats to yours Brian, I have four of the little blighters now and yes, you can give them back !!

I will buy one of the above and secretly with my undercover accomplice, (lad) have a very serious look at this.
My wife will kill me if she knew what I was up to.(broken wrist)
I have four sprogs and surely more to arrive so this does look good.

I have just had a look , with my lads help, at the rear seat configuration and with the rear squab going under the upper one, it`s perfect for isofix !!
I still have to remove the sound proofing when I have the part from Amazon and see how exactly it will sit.
It may need some extra packing pieces to make it sit soundly, but it does not need to sit 100% square due to the nature of how isofix connects ie, as long as it clips soundly to the part , there is so much room for self adjustment and still be absolutely safe !!!
This could be so bloody simple ??

It will be at cost as this is so nice for a lot of folk old and young, and I don't wish to make money out of this.

Doing some reasearch looks like the ISO fix is part of the chassis, there's nothing on real OEM that bolts to like other manufacturers do. Looking at the Tourings aswell the seat bases are different to the saloons as the have the cutouts for the ISO.

Although for a man of your calibre Brian, I'm sure if you find a Touring with them fitted, a couple of hours with a welder you'll be good to go.

I spend most of my time arguing that the kids shouldn't be in my E30!!

Bloody chupa-chups stuck to the door cards, chocolate milkshake stains on the indigo carpet, melted chocolate on the houndstooth .... :x
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

This system is simplicity itself in the way it works. Nothing really needs to be 100% in line as the system self adjusts to take up any "small" amount of slack and miss alignment.
So long as it is bolted/welded to a secure area, then it will be fine.
In my e46 330ci sport, (had to get that one in) there are only two "U" shaped anchor points on the back of the seats which fold down as well so I have every confidence in the system.

Overall length...350mm
Overall height ...41.00mm
Overall depth...70.00mm
Hole centres...280mm
hole 11.20mm x 13.20mm
Wire dia...6.00mm
Pocket created by wire...47.00mm x 21.00mm
Pockets to bolts @ 90.00 degrees

This is really well made and finished to a very good standard and includes two bolts and clip guides as well.
I would say you could fit this either way up.
Any questions , fire away.

Excellent pics! Thanks for posting.
Any idea of what the 'elevation angle' of the hoops should be when fitted?

Lets "assume" that the rear bulk head is 90 degrees to the horizontal then the seat will simply just click in place.
Now, imagine the "centre" of the hoop and the "centre" of the clip on the seat will technically be in the same place at all times when fastened together, then , the angle of the hoop to the horizontal really does not come in to play apart from the ridiculous. lol.
Even in an accident situation, due to the small amount of "child" in the seat, the clips will hold because they are gripping "around" the hoop and this will happen at really silly angles because the conditions are the same. 8O
This is why I say the system is so bloody simple !!

Fire away if you guy`s need more.

I am not having a go at the brilliant guy`s at Pinderfields hospital, Wakefield.
My boys have families and asking her indoors to help would end up in a fight which I would loose in the end so please be hang in there in bit longer.
