The speedometer on my 318is has stopped working. Can someone help! Thanks in advance

Assuming you mean that the speedo., and both odometers have quit, the most common cause is an internal break in the wire that connects to the speed sensor on the back of the diff., near its plug. This is caused by 'work hardening' of the copper in the cable, making it brittle, caused, over time, by vibration from the diff. If either of the individual wires stretches when pulled gently, then it is broken internally.
To restore the copper in the cable to its original ductile state, it has to be heated to cherry red, and then allowed to cool slowly. This is impractical for wires covered in PVC insulation, so the cure is to replace at least the last 300mm of cable, complete with plug.

Before doing that, give the dash/cluster a few good whacks and see if it comes back to life, even briefly. I have the same problem as you and the fault is in the cluster or at least the connections.
