I've never changed a crankshaft rear seal, a gearbox input or output shaft seal on an E30 in my life. They don't fail.
I've changed loads of selector shaft seals. This is the tiny seal behind the knuckle joint that connects to the gear lever linkage, and is notorious for leaking. The oil normally runs straight downwards onto the top of the gearbox output shaft, where it runs around each side, and drips off of the bottom, making it look like it's the output shaft seal that's leaking.
Knuckle joint is removed by spreading and sliding the spring collar out of the way, and pushing out a little steel pin. Seal can be prised out with a small screwdriver, but it doesn't matter if a new seal is drifted into place, pushing the existing one further into the housing. There's room for at least three.
