The center panel of my dash (where the heater controls, clock and radio are mounted) recently broke in a spectacular fashion, and it seems that the fault is that the stereo is only supported by its cage and the tabs which you bend out to keep it in place. There is no support for the bolt / protrusion which is usually at the back of any stereo, which means that the weight of the stereo is supported only by the plastic panel, and that seems to not be designed to withstand the cantilever effect.
I understand that in the E30, there never was any rear support for the "normal" bolt, but that there should be a support which sits on top of the heater module?
Can anyone confirm this? Would it be number 19 or 20 on the RealOEM link below?

My car just has number 21,with some foam on top, which forms a sort of shelf for the rear of the radio to rest on.
should there be an additional bracket there for the screw-thingy on the back of Blaupunkts to engage with? anyone?
