Hey all,

So I've just bought a '90 touring, and need to replace the fuel tank due to rust.

I've run into something confusing though. Apparently the E30 touring uses a 63l fuel tank, with only one fuel pump, rather than the 55l with two fuel pumps that is more common in the other models.

Whenever I search with this part number: 16111180175, which appears to be correct, I see photos such as the one below, where there are two "holes". Please excuse my ignorance, but to me that suggests a tank with two fuel pump locations... Also, don't worry - I don't plan on installing it myself, just sourcing the parts.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers,
Dave

Oh also as a side note, I'm an American living in Germany...that's why the link is a German site. Not sure if there is a difference in fuel tanks between LHD / RHD

Hole on the left is for the pump, the right is for the level sender (I think!) Definitely not for a second pump though, this is the correct part.

The only E30s that had two fuel pumps were some early ones, with an internal lift pump and an external high pressure pump.
Out of the later E30s, the more base models, (smaller engined 2 door and 4 door saloons) generally have 55 litre tanks, and the more prestige versions, such as tourings and cabs. have the larger tank.
The design of the 62 litre tank (no balance pipe connecting the two halves) is such that the level of fuel in one side can differ greatly from that in the other side, so two level sensors are needed to give an average reading.
