So this fella comes up to me today and asks 'What size are your BBS alloys?'
'14 inch' says I
'Oh' says he ' They're the rare ones'
Is he right? I always thought 15" were considered more desirable.

In a way he is probably right - AFAIK, the 14" BBS were originally fitted only to the 318is as standard, while the 15" were fitted to the majority of 325i models.
However, I have seen a few examples of 14" BBS fitted to other versions, such as the 320i.
I suppose the 15" are generally considered more desirable, but tyres are probably more expensive...
I gather either type were optional extras:

318iS came with steels and a "special" wheel trim as standard. 14" alloys were standard fit on late 4 cylinder Lux models, late 320i SE models, 6 cylinder Tourings and Convertibles. 14" BBS were standard on late 325i SE models. 15" BBS were standard on 325i Sports though 14" or 15" BBS could be specced on all.
