Hi,

I'm about to start preparing a set of rear suspension for my M62 track car build and I'm looking for some advice on what's required.

So far I intend to do the following work on a spare set of parts:
Reinforce front differential mounting holes
Image

Fit camber and toe adjustment plates for eccentric bolts
Fit gussets around trailing arm mounts on subframe
Image

Fit cross stiffeners between trailing arm legs
Fit brace from wheel bearing housing to trailing arm
Image

Are there any other modifications which are worth making to these components?

The intention is to run solid subframe mounts, E30 trailing arms and Z3 hubs/brakes.

What do people recommend for trailing arm bushes? Do most people go poly, or is this an application where the OE rubber is best?

As an aside, has anyone looked into reducing the angle of the trailing arm pivots? I understand this is 15 degrees and I know in the Ford world it's popular to replace the factory (19 deg) beam and arms with a replacement "6 degree beam" to reduce the camber gain on squat on Sierras. I haven't come across anything similar for the E30 which surprised me.

Thanks

uprated driveshafts? the below thread was a heavily modded engine but might be relevant

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... &start=450

I made a 6 degree cosworth beam at work - it was fairly involved, and not particularly cheap, especially when you add in a good set of rose joints.

I think this DTM beam is what you want! - seems the beam is different too

Were there different driveshafts within the E30 range or were they all the same?

I'm not sure I follow that thread and why he's changed to Universal Joints instead of Contant Velicity Joints.

I've seen the DTM beams, but whilst nice and stiff and adjustable, I think they keep the stock angle by the look of things. The cosworth beams move the inner pivot forward by 95mm to make the and there is nothing that radical going on on that DTM beam.

It was just curiosity really as I know in the ford world its a must have, but I've seen lots of complaints about the E30 rear end and no solutions.

Cheers

lifted from the dtm thread

- There's much more than mets the eye. The subframe itself is very different form a stock one. It's angle is different and the diff hole to the trunk is not located at the same place into the trunk, exactly because the subframe was bent to reduce the trailing arm angle. There is not one single piece in common between a stock trailing arm and the Motorsport parts. Whoever is willing to exactly reproduce the Motorsport parts is promised to a lot of work and loosing money.

With big power the splines/shafts sometimes let go even on m52 - so just thought it might be of interest. The universal jointed ones came of a drag car i just remembered they where a way around the problem - definetly not the NORM.

Ah, I hadnt read the whole thread! Some effort to make up custom pressings to look like the original but alter the geometry! I wonder why they did so and what trailing arm angle they used!

Interesting. Were all the axles the same?
