M52tub28 starter problem
Moderator: martauto
Hi guys, i've got a bit of an issue with the starter motor on my project. The engine is a twin vanos from a 1999 E46 and i'm using the original ZF gearbox. I'm using an M20 2.5 flywheel which has been machined to clear, to get away from DMF. I've been told the E46 starter won't work, so i'm trying to use a starter which came with the M20 2.3 in the car originally. This could be misleading as the original set up, M20 b23 and getrag box had a DMF? The starter looks identical at the bell housing end but is slightly longer than the E46 starter. It however won't fit on properly, no matter how much wriggling. The engine and box are in the car, which makes it even more awkward! Maybe i would be better if using an E36 starter? Any help greatly appreciated

Use the starter that was used with that fly wheel spec.
