Looking at getting an e90 320i 05 plate.
The guy selling it states it is misfiring and lacks power.
He said the code it brought up was for a camshaft sensor and said it may be the timing chain.
Could you guys help confirm what could be the cause and if it is easy to rectify?
Thanks

Be wary of people selling cars with faults, if its a cheap fix he would have fixed it and sold it for more.
You may be lucky but be careful.

N46 engine?
Coil packs (cheap)
Oil leaks
Timing chain and rails
Oil leaks
Vanos units
Eccentric shaft
Oil leaks
Valvetronic motor
Crank and cam sensors
Oil leaks
Valvetronic sensor
Worn rings (smoking)
Valve stem oil seals.
They leak oil as well.
PLUS:
Whining diff (500 quid repair)
ABS trigger rings
2nd gear synchro.
And much more.
In other words, don't.

What Andy said.
I keep fixing oil leaks on a Z4 with an N46, on and off for about 2 years it keeps springing oil leaks, and I think I'm going round in a circle. Because the vacuum pump is leaking again!
Horrid engine.

Thanks for the info. Ended up getting a 320d auto. Any known issues with it?

N47 engine? A phrase involving 'frying pan' and 'fire' comes to mind.
It's not an inherently bad engine, but BMW's ridiculously long service intervals, if adhered to, can wear the cam chain, etc., and this is the engine where it's an 'engine out' job to change it.
