I've moved this to tech section Ian..
Hardest part of the job is getting the mirror to clip back in place...it's a real pig to do!
There's a plug above the glovebox for the proper wire for the maplight mirror, but can't find the part number on the ETK, there was a thread started on here recently to see if someone could find it, but no reply!

I'm not so sure now that the map light mirror does have a seperate loom back to the accessories socket, because a found a wiring diagram last night that shows the mirror lights.
On this diagram, they are shown as being fed by a purple/green wire connected to a soldered joint from the similar coloure wire to the check control, although this wire also connects to the second down pin from the top right corner on the accessories socket.
Having said this, I can't recall ever finding a spare connector hanging off the check control loom extension though.
Maybe the seperate loom was only used if a car was specified with the map mirrors, but not the check control.

I've taken 2 maplights out of an E30, both with check control, and they both came with the loom (1 wire!) running down the left B-pillar to the plug above the glovebox....I'll be damned if I can find the damn thing on the ETK though!

Right, if you've seen them, then they must exist. It was failing to find them on the ETK that was giving me doubts.Simon wrote:I've taken 2 maplights out of an E30, both with check control, and they both came with the loom (1 wire!) running down the left B-pillar to the plug above the glovebox....I'll be damned if I can find the damn thing on the ETK though!
The wiring diagram I have doesn't actually show the accessories socket in any diagram, even for wires I know go through it, so the soldered joint may be in the wire leading to the socket.

IIRC it didn't plug into the junction box, just a wire from the loom just like the sunroof motor feed.
The last one I removed I gave it away, to Keith52 I think...Keith if you read this have you still got it!?

Sunroof motor feed DOES come from the accessories socket. Q for ignition on and Z for doors open.Simon wrote:IIRC it didn't plug into the junction box, just a wire from the loom just like the sunroof motor feed
in my experience i have perfected a way to get the mirror back inthe slot,
with one side of the pin in the slot, use the handle end of a hammer and place it on the t shape near the top apply gradual force and you will find its slots in easily, don't forget first to put the rubber trim surround other wise you will have to take it off again, and also unscrew the adjusting screw top to near max because its a bit fiddly when the mirror is fixed (without it you will notice that the new mirror will not be as stable as the old mirror at presses against the windscreen) OEM sports had some kind of pad where the screw top goes near the screen, i couldn't find one anywhere, i am sure you could improvise!

Hmm, I found a wire with the same connector as the sunroof wiring and plugged it into that! And it works as normal with ignition off, doors open etc..Brianmoooore wrote:Sunroof motor feed DOES come from the accessories socket. You've probably found the little sub loom with a relay, added to UK cars so that the windows work with the doors open. One end of it plugs into the accessories socket, with control wires going down to the door switches, and the other end of it connects to the plug to the sunroof/windows that would go into the accessories socket on cars for the US and some other markets.Simon wrote:Hmm, I found a wire with the same connector as the sunroof wiring and plugged it into that! It's easy to get a piece of wire from the interior lights to the sunroof motor inspection hatch or check control hole with a piece of stiff wire with a hook on the end. The wiring won't get caught up in the sunroof mechanism.H35-IAN wrote:did u find it a easy job dan all in all?
