Hi all , ive got an e36 316i that i wanna convert. Want an s54 but for now m50 will do till i get it the way i want as in looks wise.
How hard is it to do the m50 swap? is it straight forward as in ecu swap over and engine swap over with diff fuel pump?

E36 316i or E30 316i? Either way, the fuel pump doesn't need changing for a M50.

I ask because this is the E30zone, not the E36zone, although there is a wealth of knowledge on here of all BMW models, apart from the E30.
BMW made a M50 engined E36, so the short answer to your question is yes, it's an easy swap with the right bits, although you might want to look at suspension and brake upgrades as well.
You will need the M50 engine complete with engine wiring loom and ECU, and things will be much easier if that loom comes from an E36. E34 looms are electrically the same, but the connections to everything is in different places, so that you would need to find new homes for things like the ECU and relays.
