Hi guys,

In the process of restoring my alternator. I have just blasted all of the separate pieces that make up the case, mounts and fan.

I was wondering what I should do with these parts.

From the factory, is the shell of the alternator bare metal or is it painted? If it is painted does anyone know the colour.

If its not, should I just lacquer it?

cheers

From the factory on my 86 325i cab the stator is painted a matt red-lead colour (it is not red-lead!) There is only a small area of the stator, about 1/2" wide between the endcaps, which is on show. The end caps are unfinished die cast alloy, which may benefit from a clear lacquer to prevent oxidisation.

Alright sweet.

After blasting and cleaning I wasn't happy with the finish. So I've painted them aluminium silver and they look brand new.

I'll get some red matt for the middle.

Cheers. :D
