Have traced a small oil leak back to the vent tube that goes into the crank from under the inlet manifold. When inserted in the manifold the spring lifts the tube about 3-4mm out of the block. Should there be a spacer or similar in the manifold?

Also, the tube is easily removed with the manifold in situ. Is this right?
cheers.

Should be a rubber o ring in a recess at both ends.DazzyA wrote:Have traced a small oil leak back to the vent tube that goes into the crank from under the inlet manifold. Referring back to your cylinder head/oil leak troubles - the hole that the oil was coming out of should be blocked by the rocker shaft. The drilling continues down into the cam bearing, and a hole in the hollow rocker shaft should line up with this.
Is the rocker shaft locating plate in place near the front of the engine, or could the rocker shafts have been fitted the wrong way around?

Hi Brian, thanks for the o ring help.
I'm sure the retainer is in place, but will check tomorrow. Is there an easy way to tell if they have been fitted wrong?

Each rocker shaft is identical, but fitted opposite way around to each other. Each shaft has two small holes at 180 degrees to each other at each rocker position. There is also one larger hole at 90 degrees to the smaller ones correspondint to each camshaft bearing housing.
All these larger holes should be pointing downwards and inwards towards the camshaft. If thet're not, then only the centre cam bearing will be getting oil. The other cam bearings and the rockers will be dry.
Only way I can think of to check, is to push a small screwdriver or similar down the hole the oil was coming out. Should hit the solid metal of the outside of the rocker shaft, not go into it.
Come to think of it, though, if the rocker shafts were the wrong way around, then oil wouldn't get into them in the first place from the cam centre bearing.

So should there be any oil entering the head other than the spray bar? I have oil coming up around the rocker shaft retainer at the front and the same place at the rear.

Didn't think there was an O-ring at the bottom of the sprung metal breather tube, only at the top?
That's the way it is on mine anyway

Does it sit round the tube on the lip?

Two O rings, one at the top, one at the bottom, both sitting in a machined recess.Turbo-Brown wrote:Didn't think there was an O-ring at the bottom of the sprung metal breather tube, only at the top?

Will the air that can get into the bottom of the tube affect idle at all?

Any air leak will affect idle, but the amount going in there won't have much effect.DazzyA wrote:Will the air that can get into the bottom of the tube affect idle at all?
