Everything I've read about checking the ICV states that there should be 40 ohms across pin 1 and 3 and 20 ohms between 2 and 1, also 2 and 3 - mine reads pretty much that. Also it should buzz with ignition switch on, mine does too.

Also that if you pull the cable from the ICV during idle, the revs should increase to about 2000 - this is a test given in Bently and Haynes and all over the net, mine does FA, and tapping it causes the revs to drop slowly, so my question is 1) "What does yours do if you pull the cable when idling?" and of course, 2) "Is everything I've read about the ICV a load of cobblers?"

Just as a follow up,

The ICV measured correctly, and ran the car with a good idle, but it failed to maintain the revs as the engine came under load.

I came across a new ICV for 50 euro's which can't be bad, and after fitting, the car behaves completely differently. The ICV now compensates as you lift the clutch and really improves drive-ability, I can apply no gas and lift the clutch gently in second and the car sets off, with no intention of stalling.

So although the original was clean and tested correctly, it was not doing its job.
