Hi,
Which type/size would you recommend for removing the front struts on an E30?
Thanks a˜Š
Moredoor autos with small engines are cool - but my new m20b25 is awesome!

I've never had much luck with splitters, just support the strut with a jack. Wind up the nut, just past the threaded section so you don't damage the threads. Then hit with a hammer. You can also completely wind the nut off and fit one you don't mind trashing.

Also theres often an indent in the top of the ball joint which you can place a punch or something similar, if you don't want risk damaging the threaded section.

its the impact that frees these - wd for a few days always helps

You don't need the ball joint splitter on the track rod end, just hit it with the cover with a hammer when the nut is off. Scissor type for the other ball joints, turn until tight then also hit with a hammer and it'll pop out. I wrecked a scissor type on my first ones but continuing to turn after it was tight.

Fork types always split the gators so should be a last resort.

Also, remember to loosen the top nut if you are planning to strip the strut, do it whilst the car is on the ground.
