Just emptied my getrag260 box of oil. There was a load of sludge and a few metal filings on the plug and a few mm of sludge I can feel with my finger around the drain hole. Don't think the oil had been changed for years.
Is it worth flushing the gearbox to get rid of the sludg? ...will it make any difference. And if its worth it does anyone know what to use to flush it out and how to do it?
Manual gearbox flush question.

i'd guess refill g/box with some cheapish oil, run it for a spell then drain again when warm/hot then refill with decent oil.
how about sticking a magnet to the drain-plug to catch anymore swarf-or are these magnetized already?
my LSD-oil had a silver colour to it when it came out,so ive stuck a magnet to the drain-plug-dunno if it will do any good.

I would just change the oil and then do it again after a 1000 miles. That should get rid of most of the contaminant. Those that remain will be stuck down in best not to disturb them unless you are planning on stripping the box down

Thanks guys. The drain plug is magnetised but I can still feel a few gritty metal fragments trapped in the sludge above the drain hole. I'll not flush it and just change again in a few months see what the oil looks like.
