Same over on the Nikon side Paul. Sigma with the new 'art' prime lenses and Tamrons f2.8's are winning in terms of sharpness and colour and as you said, much much cheaper!

Although if you like your 'bokhe' the Sigma's are not as good open wide.

In one of the reviews i read of it they were comparing the canon 35mm to the sigma one, the sigma one actually had smoother bokeh to the canon one too! I did buy one and the lens doesn't feel as well made as my canon L lenses but it's cheaper and I was kind of expecting that.

I was hoping to use it at this hillclimb / car festival this weekend but they havent got back to me about a press pass and the weather is supposed to be horrific - http://www.castlehillcarfestival.co.uk/ :(

Paul, how's the new Art lens? Saw on FB you got the 35mm 1.4. Used it much?

I love it! It hasn't really come off the camera since i've bought it. Infact I don't think i've used my 85mm :/ The image quality is spot on, there is very little CA at f1.4 and it's focusing seems to be faultless too! A happy purchase to say the least :D

I'm a Sony shooter. A77 and A290 as backup. Quite an assortment of lenses, my favourites currently being the Sony 16-50mm f2.8 and Tamron 90mm Macro SP f2.8. I mainly shoot motor sport events here in Malta.

the quality of this one was heavily reduced since it was uploaded to facebook. I'll get some proper renders once I get home. :D

Looking forwards to seeing more drifting shots N-gen! Drift Allstars have done good drift events in malta before if you have been to one of them?

Loving the minimalistic highlight shot of the bmw in the 2nd pic Kos! I've been meaning to get around to something similar for a long time lol! Nice rolling shot of the 6 too 8)

I happened to just get into DSLR photography when the first Drift All Stars event hit Malta in 2012. It was the first motor sport event I photographed and did it fully manual believe it or not. Sony A290 with a Canon FD adapter, 35mm f3.5 Canon lens and a 2x tele. It was, sadly, the day I also discovered sensor dust.

I've started actively covering the local hill climb scene, the season concluded last Sunday without me missing a single event. It happened to rain early, all the other togs left, I ended up being the only one there. A result of which made that album my most successful photo album to date...and since it rained and I was in nature, I took to opportunity to look for some interesting fauna I can get shots of, got lucky with that as well.

Just sold a few of the hill climb photos recently as well so I'm planning to start the next season fresh with a website, something I should have done ages ago.

The photo of the Porsche is very clean and defined....I need to start improving on that myself.

Sikh Gurudwara (temple) in Gravesend, Kent.
Shot a wedding here for the 1st time last month. Heard how nice this temple was prior and i wasn't disappointed. Inside is marble, everywhere. They even have their own football pitch to train youngsters.

Well as I tried it with a 50mm, I had to get pretty close to subjects to get the type of shot i want and got a few WTF you doing looks.

I shoot Nikon

Going into the city on Friday so see what happens.

I have all of the above but my macro ring flash is of a next brand. Plenty of FB photography selling pages you could sell without fee's etc

I think the opposite! A 200mm shot wide open will seperate the subject from the background more than a 70mm, shot at a safe f5.6 for example, would. Unless you want the background and subject to blend into a scene that is? Just my personal opinion, mind :)

I meant (200mm) as in I can stand far back from subject, and not be in there face lol.
I regulary shot 200mm f2.8 and at times f4 at car events this year and simply love it.

I'm just getting into this DSLR black magic witch craft scene. Went and got a canon, even got one of those dummies guide to...to try and get to grips with the thing. Very intense....trying to master depth of field atm

How do you find the 5dmkiv? I'm thinking of selling my 5dmk2 and my 7d in favour of it. The backdrop suits the m3 well!

The autofocus accuracy and speed are worth the jump alone. 30MP is welcome (I like to actually make large prints). The touch screen works very well and 4K video is a nice bonus.

If you had a MK3 it's less of a jump - still, it's the best DSLR body out there in my opinion.

I'm glad you're happy with it! The mk2's autofocus is slow really, which is kind of why I bought a 7d. Plus i'm starting to do a bit more night time photography after getting a star tracker and the mk4 seems to be miles better!

The MK4 has a surprise ability to pull very underexposed images (shot in RAW) to perfectly clean correct exposure.

I'm talking 3-4 stops under!

But for ultimate low light, hard to beat Sony A7 series, uf you can stomach the body, lens options and UX...

I'd considered a A7rii actually. But the 5dmkiv would be a better all rounder for me I feel. Especially when I go out to Canada, I feel the weather sealing on the canon will be priceless in the winters.

100%.

A7R is too small - ergonomically I don't like it.

A friend of mine has been doing his pilots license / commercial license. So many opportunities for photos!

Been a while since I've posted in this thread. I've recently moved to Canada, had to sell a few of my camera bits. Hopefully I can get some good deals in black friday.
