there's a slight crack started to appear on the usual spot of the passengers side on topaddy of the dash above the glove box. Imy not sure how to prevent this or what action to take? I want to keep the car as original as possible. thanks in advance folks!

seems as if the black grained plastic top layer shrinks slightly over time, poss. from sunlight/heat.
i use one of those fold-out silvered windscreen-shades that you prop up inside the 'screen to keep the dash-top shielded from high temps./sun.
my dash has small splits in usual places -iv'e filled them with Everbuild butyl-sealant, this is flexible stuff they use on caravans, and it's black/grey hue blends in well with dash-finish.

I cover mine with a sheet whenever I park too (even at night/in the garage) - it helps stop the sun coming in from the rear windscreen/side windows which the sunshades/reflectors don't.
The usual option is to replace the dash board with another, but some people have seemingly had fairly decent looking results with fillers and the like.
