Hi all, just wondering what oil you would recommend for my car. Its a 325i with 195,000 miles on the clock. It is currently running 10W40 semi synthetic, but in its advancing years and bearing in mind the fact that I do drive the car hard at times, I was wondering if I should try a heavier oil?

I'm fairly sure it isn't burning any oil, but it does leak a 'little' as all M20's do, but not too badly all things considered.

Thanks all. :)

It's not a Ford or a Vauxhall! At 195,000 miles, and assuming its been properly maintained, I'd expect everything, except the exhaust valve guides, still to be within new tolerances.
10W-40 should be fine to continue with, but a full synthetic would be better.

opie oils on here used to recommend 5w40 for these cars but recently seem to have been pushing 10w40 instead.

mine seems to thrive on 5w40 full synth.

I'll keep using what I'm using then, thanks all.

Conveniently all three of my cars (MX5, Octavia TDI, and the E30) take 10W40 Semi, so I have a large stash of Shell Helix HX7...
