Not sure what's up here , tried to add a photo, and the post is blank with just my signature .. Very odd OK sorted... so this is my leaking sensor, water out of the spade terminal, what size plug should I use as the sensors are not connected to anything on my M20?

So I wonder what these two sensors on my car were for if not electric fan?

Drillings for sensors are M12 x 1.5 (2 of) and M14 x 1.5.
No sensors for an electric fan were fitted here by BMW in the 'stat elbow - you'll find this on the radiator end tnk.

what engine/age is this exactly. I'd normally expect to find a brown sensor for the temperature gauge and a blue sensor to give coolant temp. information to the ECU in these positions.

Hi Brian,

The car is late 1989 325i M20 and yes it also has the blue and brown sensors, so 4 in all in the housing, this is the drawing from BMW of my chassis number:

and yes, maybe the " gents" that I bought this car from put the sensors in the wrong holes!

definitely look at this tomorrow - I've nothing to compare my car with...
