Right need some advice guys...
My lovly freinds at the garage i was working on the engine at decided to have a pre christmas clearour and threw away my torque converter, auto rad and oil cooler thinking they where scrap!!!
Im going to have to source a new rad and torque converter to complete the auto conversion...
However just a thought, how important is an oil cooler on an m20b25? Can i run without one if i change the oil filter housing with a b20 one? Which i have...
Just thinking that with modern oils etc is it really needed?

Transmission oil cooler is an oil to water heat exchanges built into the coolant radiator, so you'll have to source an auto version of that. Engine oil cooler isn't really needed at all with modern oils, in normal conditions, as you surmise, and retains a considerable amount of oil that doesn't get changed at an oil service.

Thanks mate, you are the second person to cofirm that oil cooler isnt really needed so i will just delete that.. as for the gearbox cooler im just going to bit a new rad from GSF and use that, luckily the gearbox to rad pipes where in my car so they didnt through those out!Brianmoooore wrote:Transmission oil cooler is an oil to water heat exchanges built into the coolant radiator, so you'll have to source an auto version of that. Right so since christmas... things havent gone to well for me...
Engine and box came out...

Cleaned the bay the best i could at 4am..

New engine and box went in... only to find that i had the wrong engine loom, which would not connect to the gearbox loom...

Striped the interior out to get gearbox loom and pedal box in...
Now that its all in i cant drive till new loom has been swaped over which im planning to as soon as its decides tonstop raining!!!
Even when thats all done its still not happy days as the engine has a top end ticking sound, dont know what it is yet but im assuming its somthing in the head so will be investigating this soon... iv double checked the valve alignment but still ticking away... its getting fustrating.. but i will get there in the end.
Sad times...

It's all character building, and just think of the knowledge that you've gained! Keep up the good work.

The amount of set backs I had when I was doing mine was phenomenal.. to the point in which I actually thought there was a force stopping me from completing it
Just keep going man!
It will pay off in the end Trust me!

Had a dry day today so finished installing the new engine loom and also completed the gearbox loom so its all wired up!

Wire are all over the place at the minute, want to tesy if all work first before i start tidying and tucking them away.
Before i start testing if it will drive, is there a need to add a fuse in the fuse box for auto transimision? Or is all powered up already?

Its been 10 months since i touched the car! Been busy and under motivated to complete it...
Went to see it the other day and found it covered in dust and in a million peices just as i left it.... sad to see it like that..
Will be starting work on it again this month hopefully get it through an MOT and take it out for a drive..
