Right, I've decided as i cant find a Motorsport for reasonable money anywhere i'm going to buy a 318 on at leat a K reg and pimp that up. Mtech 2 kit, 17x10 rear and 17x9 front BBS RS wheels or similar, coded hardtop etc. The only thing is the car i have in mind is dark green which doesn't really do it for me at all, so i was thinking a respray. I dont want another Kandy as it's way too soft for everyday use and way too expensive too, so i'm looking at a standard flat colour. I saw the red cab attached in the photo's section and i love it. I'd love to get that colour along with an interior like Nav's attached, but i'm just a bit apprehensive cause it's the same colour combination as the Rieger and i dont know if i really want 2 E30 cabs both similar looking. Just wondering if you think i should go for it or find another colour really. I think it's a Callipso red on that car (Isn't that a limited edition Motorsport colour?)

Thanks in advance for any help/comments

Ben (P.S. Cheeky, but If any of you wanna sell me your Motorsport, then get in touch via PM) winkeye

Dunno waht colour that is, looks like calypso.

However have you thought of nightfire red? Saw an e30 saloon with alpinas in PBMW a while back and it looked brilliant! 8)

wassup ben? thats a calypso red cab, i know the geeza - was parked next to him at gaydon.

calypo is nice but if you are going to get the car sprayed have you thought about 'imola red'? it is a motorsport colour for the newer bmw's. i love that colour!

Oh yeah... Imola Red. It's like a slightly dark / bright red, if you know what I mean. That's the colour I wanted to spray my 'dream' E30 if I ever get round to building one! winkeye

Solid colour though...

calypso red is the best colour, no doubt. it is a rare colour but wasnt only on motorsports, as you can see in pic of my car the e30 in background in calypso.

personally i would go for calypso but as you say you already have a red cab,

I think that E46 colour is the Phynix yellow or something like that anyway.

Not really a big fan of red unless it's the colour of a car. I like red leather with silver, but i couldn't really see myself with it :(

Unless you put a Rieger kit on the new one there is no way anything will look similar to your Rieger.

ps you could always do a touring

I think the one nearest is laguna green or something, which is different.

Have to admit a brillient white cab always looks great. Or even in the Chamoix [spelling] white of the 2002Turbo?

Yeah i use to have a white M3. Looked fantastic when the sun was out, but a real bitch to clean and i mean a real bitch. It's looking more and more like the red or i might even save my money and just get the car blown over in original colour instead of wasting my money on a colour change. After all this will only be a summer car and not my main car. I will post pics of the original colour up in a mo winkeye

just get it done in original colour, with just some more silver to give it more of a sparkle. that way saves you doing, bay, door shuts etc.

To be honest my mate owes me a massive favor as he's had nearly Ԛ£15k from me over the last year so he will do a colour change for not much more than a blowover. He's a fantastic sprayer and changed the colour of the Rieger with all the interior still in there, and i'm talking door shuts and engine bay and everything else so if i'm not happy with the colour then it's worth spending a few humndred extra for a car i may keep for at least a couple of years winkeye

I suppose i better buy the car 1st before making all these plans too :D

Hi Ben, happy to see you like the motor. I know I'm being biased but Calypso on a Cab is prob one of the best 3 original colours out there.

The reason I bought mine was because of the colour.

I had read the article of the Alpina C2 2.7 Calypso Cab in Total BMW and from then I only wanted a cab in that colour.

My car def not for sale at the moment I have a list of names wanting first picks if I ever decide to sell it over 10 of them are from the zone.

Colour - Calypso
Interior - Lotus White or like Nav's :)

Sure is, at the moment its at the garage having an Insp 2 & some other little bits & bobs done.

Getting it nice & ready for the summer, I have promised to drive it more if the sun is out as I have only covered 3k in the last 4 years

Hopefully I'll meet you at one of the meets and yes I was parked next to Panesar at Gaydon, good lad he is & his car is a beauty. He helped me put my new bonnet & boot badges on.

Cheers

A little showy, but my dream motorsport cab would be just a very rich red, not an orange or monza red, with a custom soft-top done in a blue and white check pattern.

The contrast of the red body, with the white and blue check soft top would just make the thing pop from far away, and draw the eye well. Making the check line up so that front to back it was a diamond shape would make it more eye friendly and still as effective.

I've always had a thing for custom pattern soft tops with strong solid colour convertibles.

The red is definately the way to go on the cab though. The candy looked ok, but orange / monza reds look too ferrari and italian. Has to be a deep rich red.

PM replied to Hap

calypso 3k miles in 4 years is pretty funny. Saying that i've covered about 1k miles in the Rieger in the last year and half and that's only to shows and back and the occasional blast around town just to keep things running. My blue cab is even worse. Spent Ԛ£15k on it. Drove it for less than 500 miles over the last year and sold it to my mate for Ԛ£2.5k lastweek. It's now being butchered in a garage as we speek

dsio be careful they dont take you away in a white jacket with straps soon with ideas like that :D

Mate, there are people that look at your red cab and think, what is this guy thinking? But then there are others that look at it and think it is one of the most brilliant BMW cabs in the world.

If you're making a custom car, you have to be prepared to alienate half of the people that see it. If there isn't at least a decent percentage that think it looks silly or terrible, then its a boring car.

I saw a Mercedes 190SL in pearl silver, with a green and pink polkadot soft top a long time ago. And though it was completely nuts, its a classic roadster, with a neutral colour, and you can get away with going nuts on it.

I thought it looked terrible, but I had alot of respect for him, for just doing it anyway.

Agree with you 100% buddy. I no people who look at a Lambo and dont like it. You can never ever build something that everyone will like. What i always say to my mates is "It's your hard earned money, so do what makes you happy" after all, you are the one that has to live with that car on a day to day basis winkeye

Hmmm. I wonder how a pint roof would look on the Rieger winkeye :D

Mate, against a red, silver, white or black car, I think you can do anything on the top.

Not on a hardtop mind you, because it looks like a normal coupe, and its a bit "dukes of hazard" if you get what I mean.

But I thought the big Jag with the union jack on the top looked nuts in Austin Powers. Or even a red BMW cab, with the light and dark blue of the ///M colours in a flag pattern on the soft top, giving the car the whole ///M colour scheme.

It is very difficult to make an E30 cab look bad to be honest (as long as it doesnt have US pre-facelift bumpers).

I wouldnt go as far as this car: http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales ... istance=25

But go crazy with it mate.

Dat car is typical Yank, but i've seen worse. Take those stupid wheels off and tone the interior down a bit and it look ok

If you did the ///M light and dark blue in a wavey 4 squared pattern similar to the microsoft flag, on an ///M red, I think it would look incredible. Particularly if it was a genuine motorsport cab.

And yea, that one is a bit much in the wheels, and the tail lights as well. The bloke obviously built it to his taste though, and no doubt is proud of it every time he sees it. Thats the important thing.

Whichever way you go with the cab, I look forward to seeing it in TBMW/PBMW here in Australia when you're done mate. Here's hoping the ///M colour thing might stick ;)
