E46 Touring front electric window issues.

I've recently discovered a bit of an issue with the wife's E46. Its a 2001 pre facelift 330i SE Touring that's just turned over 70k. It's in great nick overall and other that one failed coil pack, I've never had any problems at all with it in the 3 years and 24k I've put on it.

Recently though, both front windows have become very slow at lowering, and even slower raising. The passenger side is worst and makes a sort of 'thunk' noise on the way down. Sometimes it won't go back up unless you place your hand on it and give it a bit of assistance.

Is this a common problem? Any suggestions on the cause?
