A friend of mine is looking to do some work on his mates E30. At the moment it's not much more than a shell, but he's got hold of an M54B30 engine and is considering fitting that. I'm perfectly happy with maintaining/working on my car although kept standard have no idea when it comes to engine swaps etc.
On the E46 wiki I found "The M54 can be used but the ECU requires 'flashing' in order to compensate for the lack of electronics in a standard E30. " quoted, however I've found very little other information.
Has anyone any experience/advice or is it not worth the hassle and sourcing an M52?

M52 block (steel bore liner) and head with M54 crank rods and pistons only!
The ECU from the M54 will not work without silly money being spent. Keep it as the M52 ECU with M54 bottom ends
