Clutch Choice for M52B30
Moderator: martauto
So I'm looking to purchase a clutch for the M52B30 build. Looking at offerings from Helix, CG, Spec etc...but a Sachs E30 M3 clutch seems more cost effective. It's the same diameter as an E30 325i clutch - will it work with my M20 flywheel?

Sachs Performance but expensive. Maybe only get a new god brand pressure plate + disc with kevlar friction material (better than ceramic for daily use)

For your car id be looking at a sprung paddle plate clutch, CG do a dual friction plate which is ok to use on the road too, they are modified LUK or Sachs clutches so the base parts are good quality, and for under £300

I like Sachs 618 pressure plates. With an organic disc they can hold 500nm, or 700nm with a sintered type paddle clutch.

Cheers for the suggestions guys. Dan - it's the CG dual friction jobbie I was eyeing up. There does seem to be a fair amount of negative feedback floating about the web or CG though? Only thing that put me off. Anyway I've now got a new Sachs E30 M3 clutch sat on my bench now, at £200 delivered it was much cheaper than the aftermarket options. If it doesn't end up being man enough, looks like that 618 pressure plate would be the ticket
Seems some US guys have been running the E30 M3 clutch behind anything up to S54s though so fingers crossed

Just make sure you get the M20 flywheel balanced. Match it to the crank, pressure plate and front pulley if you have the engine apart. it does make a noticeable difference in the smoothness. My machine shop took about 5-10g off the crank so not much. But had the fly balanced to the crank. Have a look at new M3 fly wheels and are balanced from factory and really look the same as a M20 flywheel. Just remember M3 are four pot and M20 are 6.
