is there any benefit to using silicon as opposed to oem on the cooling system hoses.?

A couple of mine are looking a little past it... considering replacing the lot with new silicon ones.

Any comments welcome.

You probably can make a 'better' hose out of silicon than you can out of rubber, but a cheap silicon hose will be inferior to a good rubber hose.
All a coolant hose has to do is retain the coolant at operating temperatures and pressures, which the OEM stuff does perfectly for many years, so why try to reinvent it?
