Hi guys,
Got a 318i at the moment which I'm hoping to convert to a 325i before summer but want to keep it looking like a 318i.
However although I actually prefer the look of it without a spoiler I've been thinkin with the extra speed I'll be gaining I may need one - need the downforce?
Do you think I should get a 325i spoiler? will an iS spoiler do? other?
What speeds do these spoilers come into play???
Cheers!
Nick

the standard 318i doesn't have a rear spoiler.

Yeah, mine is spoiler-less at the moment but if I had to get one I think I'd prefer something like the iS one. Worried the 325i one might look a bit out of place given I haven't got an mtec bodykit.smithy318i wrote:cosmetic only as far as i know.

Mind you, lookin at yours, looks pretty good actually. Does yours have any sort of kit on it? Looks pretty much like mine except I've got the chrome round the windows.hammoj28 wrote:Hmm, yeah i reckon the little is ones look good. Nice and subtle.

Don't put an M Tech spoiler on your car if you don't have the kit though, just a lip as found on the 318is, SE and Lux models will work fine.
It is purely cosmetic though.

Back to spoilers tho, it would be nice to know what speeds the spoilers actually come into play, I'm sure they're not purely cosmetic...are they?
Cheers guys!

They're not just cosmetic: They change the co-efficient of drag by creating turbulence behind the car so air can slip stream over the top of the eddies created under the spoiler. They'll also increase stability by reducing the yawing moment of drag as air passes over the car sideways on motorway.
If you think you'll be able to notice the difference though, you wont. The effect will be marginal at best with the smaller deflectors. Try not to think of spoilers as wings (a la racing cars) they are different things. No (or neligable) downforce is created by these things, they just look good, change the drag coefficient and make the back of the car more/less dirty.
I like the look of your car without the spoiler.. Dont waste time or money trying to improve performance by fitting one, do it for the looks and, as such, dont bother till you're fitting the full MTechII kit dude..

I had the M-Tech II fitted to mine, but it looked "Out of place", so i have now fitted the M-Tech I version, it looks a lot better.

As zayan said bout my car. Full mtec 2 kit. But i agree, mtec2 spoiler looks silly on a car without the full kit. I reckon your safer with the little lip one.

Thanks your input guys. Much appreciated. Jai, knew I could count on you for some solid knowledge
Think I'm just gonna leave my car completey spoiler-less in that case. Quite like the look of it that way, plus I dont intend to fit any kit to it.
Can't wait to get my BBS painted, I'll post some pics after. At the moment it just looks like a like LOW 318i in black with all red rear lights and clear indicators. Nice but I'm sure you can all imagine what it looks like.
Cheers!
