Right so I did a cooling system overhaul on my 318is.
I've changed the radiator, the viscous fan coupling, the thermostat, the water pump and ind I've bled it up with fresh coolant a‘aaaa
Now a small issue (maybe)? ....I took the car for a drive and it started giving warm air through the screen ventilation as normal (within half a mile)
But the temperature on the gauge didn't move very much until I had driven a good 6 miles and it only went between the quarter nd halfway mark...is this normal for an m42 engine?
what do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated a‘aaaa
318 is cooling system

Does the temp. gauge needle drop down again if you drive very leisurely? If it does, the thermostat isn't shutting off properly.
If the gauge moves to where you say, and stays there, apart from increasing slightly when stuck in traffic or idling, the chances are you've fitted a 80 degree thermostat instead of the correct 88 degree one.

That looks as though an 80 degree stat for a six cylinder M20 engine has been fitted.
ECP part number should be 209110050 for a four cylinder.

I agree with Ben, spot on, that's an 80 degree M20 stat.

More likely ECP have cocked up their parts list.aze30 wrote:The part number matches my stat so it's the correct stat a˜³
