I have installed an E46 Club Sports rack on my E30. It is a purple label rack.

Everything is connected up with new pipes, new track rod ends, spacers above between it and mounts, the rubber gebo has been removed and alloys spacers inserted. Power steering pumps are still connected and has been bled through. Tracking has been setup using four wheel system.

However, when the wheel is at center position it is soooooo light, and has zero amounts of feel. When you turn the wheel in between about 45/90 degrees the feeling starts to come back.

Is this a faulty rack? Apparently, it was working ok, there are no noises from it or leaks.

What have I done wrong?

Thanks

I give up... I have spent hours trying to sort this out :(

It seems that the steering is still very light when in middle, if i wind of 30 degrees either way it improves the weight...

I can't believe that this is how it should feel? It was not like this on the original rack so feels like it's defeating the purpose of installing a quick rack.

I have checked all the pipes, I think I have the correct flow around the system.

Can someone else with a club sport rack provide some guidance. IS this normal? Have I done something wrong?

Please help! Thanks

Firstly have you fitted the bushes? the offest ones if i recall need to have the pins moved inboard.
Once that's done, the car will need an alignment as it feel's squiffy afterwards cause it adds more castor and camber , so throws the alignment out.

Might also need to bleed the system, which involves having the front of the car up in the air, and the engine running, wind the steering back and forth whilst having the cap off the power steering bottle, if it's airated then you'll need to keep working the steering back and forth till the air vanishes and keep topping up with fluid (Dipstick is on the bottom of the cap so don't overfill!)

Once the air's gone, lower the car back down and give it a drive, it should feel a bit more direct. I did all of the above on my old Touring when i swapped to the purple tag 067 rack. Good luck :)
BMW and Opel, both RWD, both german, both good fun
