Carpet recolouring

I wonder if anyone's ever re coloured their carpet , I've just had my seats re trimmed in red ( near as I could get to cardinal red ) and I was thinking of changing the carpet colour match .Can it be done , I believe the carpet material is polyester but I'm not certain to be honest .

u can only dye a 320/ 325 plush type carpet, not the lower spec one,
