Recently bought an e30 off someone on here. They said it had 140k odd whereas in fact it has nearer 300k.
It runs quite well so I'm interested to know whether its the original engine. Where can find the engine identification / serial number? Anyone know? Saw a reference to be being on the block under the inlet manifold but can't see it.
TIA
m20 engine serial number

On a machined flat on RHS of the inlet side, just above the block:sump interface.
You may need to wire brush/Jenolite it and use a bright torch to see. It should start 25 6E for high compression, or 25 6K for low compression (assuming it's an M20B25). Serial number is immediately below the engine code.
