red wagon project back to m42 plan

i bought this with full intentions to frag it being an m40 slushbox combo with nasty beige everything until i checked the shell over for rot and discounting the beige [ i have a plan ]...

This none sunroof 74k miles turd is solid , it really is worth me tinkering on with it for this reason only , i couldn't send it to china

can't believe i actually sold the BEIGE drivers seat from it ... result !
















i've sourced an m42 conversion for the project and going to convert from auto to manual at the same time , it's got a headliner like a 4 post bed canopy so i've got that to sort out too but what a good solid car though

i've sprayed the door cards and rubber handles from beige to black using this stuff ...

i recently bought this green turd to frag so i've taken the seats from it with the black sides so i just need to dye the main front carpet black , get some rear headrests , a load cover and do the headliner and that's the interior finished , then on to the oily bits .




well there you go , i've been wanting to save this red turd and i feel good about doing it

made a start on the 4 poster bed headliner option , taking it out was pretty easy but getting it glue free was another story, very therapeutic











i found that wirewool and some panel wipe + elbow grease sorted it out within 3 hours ..... my plan is to have it flocked as i've never seen one done i think this is the way forward for this car if i can pull off the desired finish and look on the headliner

just found out that f-locking cost is £120 didn't realise it was that expensive tbh

this car has a cracked dash not so rare now lol so maybe getting it flocked along with the headliner and both centre consoles for a further £110 and it will all blend in well .

my other option is to just buy some green can evo and some suitable black material for around £50 ish
[ not knowing much about material prices ] and changing the dash which has a large crack < for one with a very small crack starting which will save me around £180 hmmmm

f00kin decisions i want it to be a nice clean chariot aimed at the younger generation hence the m42 conversion that will make no difference at all on insurance however it will be converted to manual.

gives with one hand and takes away with the other ....you can't win !

very happy with that , a half roll of padded black headliner material was sat in the shop that was perfect !



putting all the black bits /covers and things back on .... looks much better now .

next up is the dash , i have a better one in the green turd to liberate .... this grand canyon has to go .

they turned out great but that link is expensive i got mine for £37 for x3 cans delivered .... i thought you might be able to scratch it off with a thumbnail but it's better than that

even sticks well to the rubber handles .

not having my white car at home has led me to tinker on with this one for a bit , got bored so done a few things .

took the cracked dash out and i also had to change all the boysen cables on the heater box as i cut them all when i sold the heater panel from it before i'd decided to keep it [ the car that is ]
.

what a shit job those cables were , no chance in hell of doing it with the dash in .



all fixed



put a better dash back in





changed this fooked door break for a new one i had lying around now the bloody door stays open like it should .



all boxed up with blaupunkt tunes installed lol



even fitted a nice underdash panel from the stockpile .

mate those are the original clocks in now and correct mileage


i used the car to check all the clusters i have in stock and reset the SI board etc lol , good opportunity while it was all stripped out .

managed to get time to pull the old engine and slushbox , [ just sold the head from it ] .



i decided there and then i'm going to need some decent de-greaser so bought some brush on gunk and a new brush




after 20 mins of letting the de-greaser do it's thing and water proofing the electrics it was hit with the jetwash , then soapy water handwash aaaaand finally t-cut as much of the bay as i could hit>>>>>>>>

What's your plan for the loom, do you have an E30 loom or modding the 36?

Don't have a spare O/S rear electric window motor in the 'spare' car

Keep us updated on the work. My next job is to change dash, carpet and heater unit (A/C ), with an M42 sitting in the corner of the garage for next year.

i already have a full 318is conversion sat on the garage floor , any parts needed to fit Andyboys engine are there , i'll name drop the author of the e30 bible and zone leg end in the sale advert when it comes about .

From a 1995 318Ti Compact Auto - so you'll need to swap the manifolds, loom and sump over. But it's a 52'000 mile engine that runs perfectly. I drove it 65 miles back from Manchester and it really went well.

it will be without inlet manifolds, ecu, loom, exhaust manifolds, sump and anything else i need from it to fit the e36 one
