I am wondering if my sunroof is working as BMW intended.
I will try to explain but i may need to post a video to help.
My sunroof works fine but always stops in certain positions, meaning i need to release the switch button and then press it again to make the sunroof continue to move.
Do all E30 sunroofs do this?
Secondly what makes me think that it might not be correct is that the sunroof seems to stop in random positions, all be it in the same positions every time.
Two of the stop positions are very close together which makes me think they should be correlated to the tilt position and the closed position but they are not.
Hopefully my description makes some sort of sense.

I think that the motor assembly isn't synchronised with the position of the roof.
If it had happened suddenly, it would probably be as a result of stripped teeth in the motor gearbox, but if it's always been like it, it could be as a result of incorrect assembly when refitting the motor at some time.
Remove whatever trim prevents you getting at the motor (varies between saloon and touring), set the roof to full tilt, then remove the three bolts that hold the complete motor assembly to its mounting plate. pull the motor straight down and free, leaving the electrics connected, then play with the switch until you find a stop position where the motor runs for several turns if you push and hold one of the switch buttons, returns to the original stop position if you push and hold the other button, then runs for several more turns if you push that button again.
Push the first button, and the motor should return to the 'roof closed' position.
Push the tilt button, and when the motor stops, it will be in the full tilt position, and ready for refitting.

When you say tilt and slide, does the sunroof stop automatically in the closed position?
Im not in Norwich exactly, im in a small village about 10 miles out called Cawston, have you heard of it?
What about yourself?
