Hi Guys,
I have a 1989 m20 Cab (pre face lift) and I had some issues with my rear light holders a couple weeks back which kept triggering my checking warning lights.
I had a good set and swapped them over and now have all my rear light working as they should however I cannot for the life of me switch off the "rear light" warning indicator on the check panel?
I cleaned up all the connectors, have the correct 12v 10w bulbs and have checked all the fuses and all seems fine.
Any ideas what could be causing the warning light not to go out?
Thanks in advance!

It could be the bulb check unit itself, which is mounted on top of the N/S/R wheel arch behind the lining in the boot. Mine had burnt out part of the printed circuit owing to the wrong value fuse fitted and a short. Repaired with solder. Another thought, are you certain it is not the number plate lights warning rather than the rear lights? One of those could have gone without you noticing it.

If the rear lights work, but the failure warning is indicated, then maybe the reed switch in the check unit has failed, or the multi connector to the check unit has deteriorated - take out the check unit and clean the connectors and open the unit and test the reeds - simple with a multi meter and a magnetised screwdriver.

The bulb check unit in the boot we are suggesting, not the check panel itself, to avoid any doubt.SilverShadow wrote:Cheers guys....
