Wonder if you can adapt the mechanics to fit e30 pop outs.

There was a thread about this a while back - I asked on E36coupe.com and they seem fairly common although most said they never used them.
I did ask how it all worked because I was considering a retro fit but nobody seemed able or willing to answer
Ive never seen them on an E30 and the ETK doesnt show any parts for the E30 (that I can see), but if you look at the E36, it comes up as an option and shows the parts and numbers, so I would guess they werent an option for the E30.
If anybody can find out how they work on the E36, Id be up for giving it a go

My sisters E46 compact has them and I had thought it would be a pretty cool mod. Keep us updated on any info you find, I'll do the same.
I've just looked on my ETK and the electric mechanism on the E46 compact looks like it could be butchered to fit the old E30

I had them on my E46 Sport (they were std.). They're pretty much mandatory if you don't want to have to climb into the back every time you want to pop the windows but then again, they were fluffing slow (about 12 sec from fully open to fully closed, no one-touch activation either) and so quiet that you could never tell whether they were fully open / closed without looking. Which kinda defeats the point in my opinion.
Rarely used them, except to serenade backseat drivers on my favourite cross country routes...

I put electric rear opening's on my old clio, and it isn't to difficult. So I can't imagine it being much harder on an E30.
When I did my clio I used Megane rear quarter opening motors, these fit to the c pillar and are mounted to the glass by a bolt going through the glass IIRC.
I paid about Ԛ£20 for the motors from a scrappy then it's just a case of getting power to them and sorting the switches, E30 switches could be used quite easily.

i would love to have them on the e30 but the only thing
my mate uses them for is to say to people watch the window.....
i think its one of those mods that isnt really essential just

this sounds fantastic,,, ok its not something you would use,, well i think i would, if say you got tints, u dont really want ot roll the window down,, just pop tem back. also if you want to be loud and larie with the sounds, then pop them out.
if someone wants to try it out and make a set,, see how it goes,, they will be heroes in my eyes
. i will settle for a set ;)

I used to have mine open ALL the time, so a power opener would be a great mod!

Any chance of a photo or two, so I can get my head round whats actually involved.E30Mark wrote:I have a complete set of E46 compact motors & bits
Looking at the ETK pics (which arent the clearest) and comparing the E36 Coupe with E46 Compact bits, I think the E46 Compact stuff might be the way to go.

i got a set 4 my e36 coupe of ebay full kit all new still in the bags took about 2 hours to fit. the motors go down in the rear wings then a cable goes up to the window catches, they would be easy to fit in a e30 you would have to use the e36 window catch, i have the wiring diag and fitting instructions some were. if any one needs them they are in german.
