After reading many and I mean many threads on the world wide web I'm no wiser that before , is the ECU also known as a DME ?

Yes.
ECU = Engine Control Unit
DME = Digital Motor Electronics (e.g., Bosch Motronic).

So just to be clear the ECU /DME is the same unit located on the drivers side below the dash and the ECU/DME has a relay which is located in the nearside engine bay .Speedtouch wrote:Yes.

Indeed. However, DME can mean anything related to the engine management system, which includes sensors such as the CPS, TPS, wiring loom, relays, etc.
